To,
Shri Suresh Prabhu
Hon’ble Minister for Commerce and
Industry
Udyog Bhawan
New Delhi – 110 107
Sir
Sub: - Stop Proposed move to
close down/restructure salt Commissioner’s organistion – reg.
It is reported that Ministry of
Commerce and Industry has initiated action to close down various
offices/restructure office’s under Salt Department based on the recommendations
of Expenditure Reforms Committee and National Productivity Council (NPC). The
Kolkata region has been ordered to be closed with immediate effect and the
Staff attached to Kolkata office are shifted to Humma Circle office in Odisha
State which is 575 Kilometers away from Kolkata.
In view of the Govt. decision to
close the organisation, the Department is not allowed to fill up post including
promotional posts. Promotion to various cadres for the past three years is held
up and the staff are very much frustrated. Uncertainty is looming large over
their head, almost all of them above 50 years of age. They have settled in
their respective place of posting and facing their crucial family commitments
such as education and marriage of their children etc. with great difficulties.
The decision to close down the organisation has very much affected their morale
and all are worried about their future.
In view of the above, I request
your immediate intervention so that the decision to close down/re-organise the
salt Department will be reviewed and dropped. It is further requested that the issues
relating to the staff may be discussed with the staff side before taking any
decision affecting the staff.
Awaiting favourable action.
Yours faithfully,
(M. Krishnan)
Secretary General
& Member, Standing Committee
National Council JCM
