REFORMS
IN INDIAN ARMY STARTS
Indian Army starts the process of closing down four Ordnance Depots(OD) - O
D Shakurbasti, OD Cheoki (Allahabad), Central
Vehicle Depot Delhi and Vehicle Depot Panagarh (West Bengal) as part of
reforms recommended by committee headed by Lt Gen D B Shetkar (Retd) to rationalise Army's
organisation in 2017.
Next on chopping block are
eight Army Base Workshops which are planned to be now run by private sector
under Army's guidelines.
Army's combatant personnel
will be absorbed in its various units.
However
the Civilian staff of these Depots/Workshops are resisting transfer to MOD's
other installations. But the ministry has instructed Army to carry on the
reforms.
